Care & Maintenance

Every piece in our collection is handcrafted using premium natural fibers and ancestral artisanal techniques. Because these organic materials are alive, following these care guidelines ensures their beauty, structure, and character endure for years to come.

Natural Fiber Entrance Mats & Rugs (Fique & Sisal)

  • Moisture & Floor Safety: Fique and sisal fibers are highly absorbent. Never place your mat or rug on a damp floor, as trapped moisture can damage the fibers and your flooring.

  • Outdoor Use: Our boutique mats can be placed outside, but they must stay under shelter (such as a covered porch or awning) to protect them from direct rain and heavy downpours.

  • If They Get Wet: If your mat becomes wet or saturated, immediately move it to a well-ventilated area. Air dry thoroughly on both sides before placing it back on the floor.

  • Absolutely No Washing Machines: Never machine wash, submerge, or steam-clean natural fiber rugs. For spills, spot clean only. Blot immediately with a clean, dry white cloth. For stubborn spots, use a damp cloth with a tiny amount of mild, clear detergent, blot gently, and dry quickly.

  • Shedding Expectations: Because these are authentic, minimally processed natural fibers, slight shedding is completely normal at first. Do not worry—shedding will dissipate within approximately 2 weeks of regular use and light vacuuming.

  • Flattening Wrinkles & Creases: If your rug has shipping creases or curled edges, you can easily straighten them out. Place heavy objects (like books or upturned furniture) on the creases for 24 to 48 hours. For stubborn wrinkles, you can iron them on a low, warm setting using a pressing cloth between the iron and the rug fibers.

  • Routine Maintenance: Shake your mat out regularly or vacuum using a suction-only setting. Avoid spinning brush bars (beater bars), which can fray the tight, hand-woven weave.

Hand-Woven Placemats & Table Textiles

  • Absolutely No Washing Machines: Just like our rugs, our hand-woven placemats should never be machine washed, submerged in water, or dry cleaned. Machine washing will warp the structural shape and ruin the intricate weave.

  • Daily Care & Food Spills: For everyday crumbs, simply shake the placemats out or wipe them down with a clean, dry, soft-bristled brush. For food spills, spot clean immediately. Blot (do not rub) with a damp cloth and a drop of mild, clear dish soap, then air dry completely.

  • Straightening & Reshaping: If a placemat loses its perfectly flat shape or gets wrinkled from storage, you can easily reshape it. Iron on a low, warm setting on the reverse side using a damp pressing cloth between the iron and the placemat. Alternatively, place heavy books on top of them overnight.

  • Storage: Store your placemats flat in a dry, well-ventilated drawer or pantry. Avoid folding them or storing them in damp spaces.
